I'm sure you all know the famous story "西游记", how Sun WuKong and his fellow mates travels to the west to retrive the scrolls. Well, I had my own Journey to the West too!

Meeting place: Jurong East Ctrl Station.
Meeting time: 2.30pm
Destination: IMM
And so we took pictures with Oscar the Grouch, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Bert and Ernie!
[Collage done by Rui. Courtesy of R is for Rui]
And this is the collage done by me. The Croc-kies gang! *hee*Also, we were fascinated by those machinese, where you slot a coin, turn the knob, and a plastic ball containing your prize appears. You know what I am referring to right? Yepz. Haha. Studied those few machines at the 2nd level because we were too kind to fight with the little kids at the playground. *haha* It was only when we explored the first level did we realise there were SOOOOO many of such machines! *faints*
Had dinner at LJS *because JJ's poster was at the entrance eh? haha*... and chatted... and gossiped. Mostly about entertainment news, e.g. Superband and how that disgustingly horrible group ever got in and never seems to get out of the competition, drama serials..etc. etc. etc.
After that, had to search for the bus stop to take Service no. 333 to the Omni-Theatre to catch 'Poseidon'. Such an adventurous search..from the loud "ppoooooooottt" by the person who walked pass cy, which really stank the carpark, to the carpark-traffic-attendant giving us vague directions to take a bus, to approaching the information counter to ask for directions, to us J-walking and not taking the bridge *"i don't know anything! I'm from the east one!".. in case the traffic police catches us*, to making sure the bus driver tells us where to alight to get to Omnitheatre.
Finally, we arrive there save and sound...and early!
Omni-Theatre. Singapore Science Centre.
Since we had some time, we 'played' chess. Some sort. Haha. Rui:"Eh.. like Harry Potter u know.. then they fight.." *haha*
4 out of 5 of us. Hippo was the photographer.
Awaiting Rui to figure out how to use her camera to set the timer.
*Funny expressions. Hahahaha*
"When is she going to be done?!" *haha*
Finally. Check out our poses. Haha.
*Yes, thanks to me teaching LRR how to use her camera. Haha. -_-"*
Finally, we entered the Omni-Theatre.. after SO many years. Apparently, it seems that the last time we stepped in to watch a show at the Omni-Theatre was in primary school. Long time huh? *We aren't that old btw..haha* So yes, these are shots taken inside the theatre. Cool right?! Let me explain more about these machinese of the Omni-Theatre...
The patented OMNIMAX Projection System utilises the largest film size format in the history of motion picture - a film frame 10 times larger than the conventional 35 mm film and 3 times larger than a 70 mm frame. Projected through a fish-eye lens, it fills the hemispheric screen with brilliant images. On the take-up, a full reel of 60-minute film weighs 100 kg.
"The OMNIMAX Projection System is so large it weighs 910 kg and stands nearly 1.65m high.
A 15,000 Watt, water-cooled xenon lamp in the projector - equivalent to that used to light NASA's launching pads - is used to produce the necessary brightness.
Seventy-two speakers in 12 huge 4-way cluster and 12 sub-bass speakers are strategically placed behind the hemispheric screen which allow the 6-track stereophonic sound, powered by a 20,000 Watt sound system, to "move" across the theatre in synchronisation with the action on the screen" (Singapore Science Centre, 2002).
Its no wonder we were all so eager to watch Poseidon at Imax/Omni-Theatre.
Alright. Once again, my reviews about the movie.
Poseidon.
Directed by Wolfgang Petersen ("Troy", "Perfect Storm", "Air Force One"...)
Starring *Basically, the 6 survivors. Haha. Spoiler!*
Kurt Russell as Robert Ramsey *The Dad/Ex-Fireman. He died...courageously.*
Josh Lucas as Dylan Johns *The smart guy*
Jacinda Barrett as Maggie James *The mother*
Jimmy Bennett as Conor James *The young boy. The son*
Richard Dreyfuss as Richard Nelson *The architect. The old man*
Emmy Rossum as Jennifer Ramsey *The daughter of the Ex-Fireman*
Mike Vogel as Christian *The fiancess of Jennifer, above*
Okay. Set on this luxurious cruise ship at sea in the North Atlantic on New Years Eve, known as the Poseidon. It stands at more than 20 storeys tall, and has 13 passenger decks *there's elevators. Serious* So while everyone is partying in the ballroom and disco after the countdown, the Chief Officer sense something amiss. Scanning the horizon, to his horror, he sees a rogue wave approaching the Poseidon.
Immediately, he orders for the ship to be in full gear and be turned around.. but alas, as in the movies, the waves strikes the Poseidon and forces it into capsize... completely upsdie down. Huge damage to the ship, and almost more than half of the lives taken due to explosions, flying debris, crashing weights...
A few hundred survivors are left in the still-intact Main Ballroom, which was completely underwaters. The captain ordered for everyone to stay together and wait for rescue, as he mentioned "...when the waves hit the Poseidon, an automatic emergency signal has been sent out... several hours before rescue reaches us. Please remain calm and follow the instructions of my men..."
But then, a man, a professional gambler Dylan Johns, ignores the captain orders and tries to climb up... to the bottom of the ship (it's upside down remember). As he prepares to get into safety, he meets this 9 year old boy who was rescued from the grand piano hanging from the 'ceiling'. The little boy begs for Dylan to bring he and his mum along... and so does Robert Ramsey, for he wanted to search for his daughter in the lower decks (which is now 'upstairs') disco. Richard Nelson joins them too for "....I'm an architect, and I know that this ship isn't built to stay upside-down...". Realising they needed someone to guide them, Robert Ramsey offers 3x pay increament to a young waiter in exchange to be the 'Map'.
And so, their escape begins......
Basically, this is the re-make of the original Poseidon which was released in the 70s. I have to admit, story was weak. It is New Year's Eve, wave comes, hits ship, ship is upside down. Only less than 10 people have brains to escape. Whole show basically showed how they escaped. The rest... died. Sad.
Development of characters was almost close to NIL. Apart from catching their names, and who's who...that was pretty much about it. A father, an ex fireman, (who now seems to own the ship or sthg. dunno) and his daughter and her fiance. An old architect who initially wanted to commit suicide for i-dunno-what-reason but then decides he wants to live. A mother, with no husband, and her 9 year old son. A professional gambler who was the smartes guy. A stowaway. A drunk. A waiter. That's all. Nothing about their characteristics, personality.... Bleah.
Acting was very good....but limited to one actor (Josh Lucas as Dylan Johns, the smart guy who first decides to escape) it seems *haha*.
Honestly, the film was... bad. But I must say, that the effects of the show... and thanks to the Omni-Theatre, it was a good show. Yup. Effects of the projector and sound system and the movie were good. Haha. I felt sea-sick at the beginning, and was rather giddy. Felt naseous during the movie... and at the end of the movie, I felt all better after a burp. Haha. A tip for those intending to watch movies at Omni-Theatre.. The screen is HUGE. It is WIDE. But then, once you know where to focus, everything falls within your peripheral vision. Haha.
Alrights. 2.45am. Spent almost 3 hours on this post. Finished my supper *aka glass of milk* Time for bed. I'm tired. Good night!
